ABOUT THE EVENT:This open workshop spans out over several days, and explores do-it-with-others style the different ways in which it may be possible to make edible paper or flat sheets using waste. Starchy foods, fibrous vegetable or plant materials are ideal, and when blended or boiled, they can provide the basis for the sheets. The strength, texture and translucency depends on what materials we start with. First meeting introduced previous experience and invited local participants to join the experimental process during the following week.
On-site there was basic kitchen items to blend, strain and dry materials with the tools and results of the process left as a part of the exhibition at apexart. The resulting formulas from the Edible Paper Experiments durational workshop can be found HERE. |

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Andrew Gryf Paterson (SCO/FI) is an artist-organizer, cultural producer, educator and independent researcher. He specializes in developing and leading inter/trans-disciplinary projects exploring connections between art, digital culture and science, cultural activism, ecological and sustainability movements, cultural heritage and collaborative networks. Originally from Scotland, Paterson has been most active in the past 15 years in the Baltic Sea region, based for most of the time in Helsinki, Finland. In recent years, he has been collaborating with Agnieszka Pokrywka, in Pixelache project 'Ferment Lab' activities. The overlap into food-hacking and paper-making emerged from this activity as an ongoing curious experiment.
